Parliament is set to be prorogued from December 16, 2024, until the next session begins on February 24, 2025. This prorogation marks the official conclusion of the current parliamentary session, which has lasted for one year within the standard four-year Parliamentary Term. The Honourable Speaker has communicated this decision to His Excellency the President.

During this prorogation period, parliamentary activities including sittings and Standing Committee proceedings will be suspended. However, any urgent matters may be addressed at the discretion of the Speaker.

The State Opening of the third parliamentary session will take place on February 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., and will be presided over by His Excellency, Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu, the President of Fiji. The ceremony will feature a full military Guard-of-Honour organized by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and will be attended by the Acting Honourable Chief Justice and other judicial officials.

Following the State Opening, Parliament is expected to reconvene on March 3, 2025, for a two-week sitting period. Meanwhile, the operations of the Parliament secretariat will persist during the prorogation, ensuring continuity of essential functions.

This prorogation period provides Parliament with an opportunity to reflect on its achievements and prepare for the upcoming session, fostering a productive and well-organized atmosphere when they reconvene.
