Fiji Paralympic Team Gets Boost with New Dedicated Bus Service!

The Fiji Paralympic Team is set to benefit significantly from improved travel access to their training sessions, thanks to the provision of a dedicated ministry bus by the Ministry for Women, Children, and Social Protection. Minister Sashi Kiran emphasized that the decision to allocate the bus was made swiftly in response to an urgent need, and reassured the public that other community services will remain uninterrupted.

The Fiji Sports Commission will oversee the bus’s operation, which includes supplying fuel and a driver. Kiran stated, “These are resources that the state has, and we would like to share it as much as possible to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, yet most talented. They’ve been working hard despite many obstacles, and this is a small way we can help.”

The President of the Fiji Paralympic Committee, Shaenaz Voss, noted that the committee had long sought reliable transportation for athletes and coaches. This bus arrangement marks a pivotal improvement, especially considering the challenges faced last year when the team struggled with limited transportation options while preparing for the Paris Paralympics. Voss expressed hope that this development will enhance accessibility for athletes, who often found public transport inadequately equipped for their needs.

This gesture showcases a commitment to supporting athletes with disabilities in Fiji, reflecting a broader trend observed with other sports organizations in the country. For instance, the Fiji Islands Baseball and Softball Association also recently benefited from a donation of essential training equipment from the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee, reinforcing the importance of community support for enhancing athlete development.

As the Fiji Paralympic Team looks ahead, this initiative not only improves logistical aspects but also fosters a more inclusive environment for athletes preparing for future competitions. There is a growing optimism that with enhanced support and resources, Fiji’s athletes will continue to thrive on both national and international stages.
