Fiji Outrigger is gearing up for a formidable performance in the Va’a Competition at the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau later this month. With less than two weeks until the Games start, head coach Stanley Ooms is diligently working to finalize preparations and ensure that each paddler achieves peak performance.

In recent weeks, Ooms has been experimenting with different paddler combinations to optimize the team’s lineup for each event. He noted, “Just a final addressing with different combinations to ensure we have the right ones when we get to Palau to also allow for any mishaps we might have to illnesses or anything like that.” This proactive approach reflects a commitment to adaptability and readiness.

The national Va’a team comprises 22 athletes, evenly split with 11 male and 11 female paddlers. Team Fiji plans to depart for Palau on the 27th and 28th of this month, eagerly anticipating the competition and aiming for a podium finish.

The excitement surrounding Fiji Outrigger mirrors the broader enthusiasm across various sports sectors as athletes prepare for the Mini Games, emphasizing community support and the development of young talent. This focus on cultivating junior paddlers, similar to efforts seen in Fiji’s swimming and volleyball teams, is pivotal for sustaining long-term success in the sport.

Overall, Fiji’s representation at the Pacific Mini Games promises to be a moment of pride and showcase the dedication and potential of its athletes. With a strong sense of commitment permeating the training, there is an optimistic outlook for Team Fiji as they aim to shine on the international stage.
