Fiji has marked a significant step in its diplomatic landscape by inaugurating its first embassy in Jerusalem, reinforcing its relationship with Israel. This development was officiated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during his visit to Israel, solidifying Fiji’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. The embassy opening serves as a testament to Fiji’s foreign policy shift and its intention to fortify cooperation in various sectors, including technology, education, disaster resilience, food security, and defense partnerships.
Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized Fiji’s enduring support for Middle East peacekeeping, highlighting the nation’s firm stance on global peace and stability, despite its smaller size. During a bilateral meeting, Rabuka updated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Pacific’s Ocean of Peace Declaration — a regional initiative by Pacific leaders to enhance solidarity and security.
Netanyahu lauded Fiji’s decision to establish the embassy, viewing it as a reflection of the strong, shared values and friendship between the two countries. He acknowledged Rabuka’s support as a positive gesture further cementing the diplomatic ties that have stood since 1970.
