Tennis Fiji has expressed its ambition to enhance the Fiji Open by introducing a Masters component in the coming years, which would significantly elevate the tournament’s profile. This initiative is part of Tennis Fiji’s commitment to expanding the tournament’s appeal and providing diverse opportunities for players of all ages. This follows the expansion of the tournament to include 44 categories in the 2025 Fiji Open.
Tennis Fiji President Romil Kumar emphasized that the organization is already taking steps to make this vision a reality and highlighted the crucial role of major sponsors, such as Extra Supermarket, in supporting the sport. Kumar stated that the contributions from these sponsors not only aid in organizing the tournament but also help fund grassroots development initiatives, which are essential for nurturing young talent.
The Extra Fiji Open Tennis Championships are scheduled to take place from May 7th to May 11th, 2025, at the Denarau Golf Club in Nadi, promising an exciting showcase of tennis.
This focus on enhancing the Fiji Open aligns with the ongoing growth of tennis in Fiji, evident from recent events like the Vodafone Suva Open Tennis Championship, which saw a significant increase in participation, showcasing local talent and fostering future stars.
Tennis Fiji’s plans and the support from sponsors signal a bright future for the sport, creating opportunities for both emerging athletes and experienced players to shine on a larger stage.
