As floodwaters in Fiji begin to recede, the Fiji Red Cross Society is urging communities, particularly those in the Western Division, to take prompt measures to protect themselves from potential outbreaks of climate-sensitive diseases.
Among the diseases of concern are Leptospirosis, Typhoid, Dengue Fever, and Diarrhoea, which tend to increase during this period. Ragigia Dawai, the Director-General of the Fiji Red Cross Society, emphasized that while the immediate dangers associated with the flooding are diminishing, the risk of disease transmission remains a significant threat.
In response to the situation, the Fiji Red Cross has recently assessed 75 households and provided assistance to over 295 individuals in need across both evacuation centers and local communities in the Western Division.
