The National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) has issued an urgent advisory for the public, particularly those living in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and prepared as heavy rain and strong winds affect the region. A Heavy Rain Warning is currently in effect for the entire Fiji Group, significantly heightening the risk of flooding in vulnerable communities.

Additionally, Strong Wind Warnings are applied to land areas in the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Western Viti Levu, Northern Vanua Levu, and Kadavu. These warnings extend to marine areas, covering waters around Yasawa and Mamanuca, Southwest Viti Levu, Northern Vanua Levu, Kadavu, and the Vatu-i-Ra Passage.

The NDRMO is advising residents to take proactive measures to secure their homes, boats, and any loose items to prevent potential damage. Caution is particularly advised for those traveling, especially near rivers, streams, and coastal zones, where conditions may be more hazardous.

Mariners are urged to avoid navigating in rough seas and to comply with all current marine warnings. The importance of monitoring official weather updates and adhering to safety recommendations issued by relevant authorities cannot be overstated as the community navigates these adverse weather conditions.

With a focus on preparedness and community vigilance, there is hope that together, residents can minimize the impact of the storms and ensure the safety and well-being of everyone during this challenging weather event.
