A flash flood warning is currently active across all low-lying and flood-prone areas in Fiji, with the Nadi weather office urging residents to be vigilant of potential flooding during high tide at around 3:00 PM. Notably, Nadi experienced flooding yesterday at the same time.
In the past 24 hours, significant rainfall totals were recorded, including 186.5mm in Nadarivatu, 96.5mm in Momi, and other notable amounts across various locations. Fortunately, the Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that Queens Road through Nadi Town is now accessible to all traffic as floodwaters have receded, although motorists are advised to remain cautious due to some potentially slippery sections of the road.
A heavy rain warning remains in effect for the entire Fiji group as an active low-pressure trough continues to bring cloud and rain to the region.
This situation calls for heightened awareness and preparedness among residents, given the forecasted weather patterns. It’s crucial for the community to remain updated on weather conditions and to prioritize safety while navigating affected areas.
Overall, the resilience and quick responses from governing bodies like the Fiji Roads Authority play a vital role in ensuring the safety and accessibility of affected regions during adverse weather events. Community members can take comfort in knowing that there are measures in place to address these challenges.
