This morning at 7:30 AM, a flash flood warning was issued for all small streams and vulnerable low-lying areas in Vanua Levu. The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) has also extended a flash flood alert to the western, northern, and interior regions of Viti Levu, as heavy rainfall is anticipated.

This weather phenomenon is being driven by an active trough of low pressure, which brings clouds and rain along with enhanced northwest winds across the Fiji Group. The system is predicted to gradually spread eastward across the islands until Tuesday.

Residents in flood-prone areas and those near waterways are advised to remain vigilant due to the heavy rainfall expected with Tropical Cyclone Seru, which could lead to significant flooding. The FMS warns that flooding may result from clogged drainage systems and overflowing streams, with particular concern for low water bridges, Irish crossings, and properties in low-lying regions.

A special weather bulletin regarding flash floods will be released at 10:30 AM today or sooner if conditions warrant. Authorities urge the public to prioritize safety by avoiding flooded areas and following advisories from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and related agencies.

While the potential for disruption exists, staying informed and adhering to safety precautions can help communities navigate these challenges. By remaining aware and cautious, residents can work towards ensuring their safety during this weather event and display resilience in the face of natural adversity.
