The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning indicating heavy rainfall across various regions. The warning specifically applies to the interior and southern areas of Viti Levu, spanning from Sigatoka through the Coral Coast to Navua. Additionally, southeastern Vanua Levu, including southern Bua and Cakaudrove, is also included in the advisory.
The unstable weather conditions, driven by a northerly wind flow, are expected to bring afternoon and evening thunderstorms, which may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas within the coming hours. Residents are strongly advised to steer clear of flooded creeks and drains and to avoid walking, cycling, or driving through floodwaters. It is recommended to unplug electrical appliances and remain indoors, away from windows. Special attention should be given to ensure that children stay inside.
Thunderstorm activity is anticipated to continue into late afternoon or evening. The recent Tropical Disturbance TD05F entered Fiji’s Area of Responsibility at 6 AM and is currently positioned northwest of New Caledonia. It is projected to move southeast and exit Fiji’s area by tomorrow. Fortunately, TD05F does not pose a direct threat to Fiji at this time. The Nadi Weather Office is committed to monitoring the situation closely and will provide timely updates.
Members of the public are encouraged to rely on official Fiji Meteorological channels for information and to avoid unverified news regarding the weather. The Nadi Weather Office emphasizes the importance of vigilance and preparedness as severe weather conditions are affecting parts of the country. By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, residents can better protect themselves and their families during this weather event.
