A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Viti Levu and the eastern half of Vanua Levu, as authorities anticipate heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding in the coming hours. Residents in the northeastern regions of Viti Levu, specifically from Ra–Rakiraki through Tailevu North to Nasinu, Nausori, and Naitasiri, are among those at risk. Similarly, areas on the eastern side of Vanua Levu, stretching from Labasa to Udu Point, Wailevu, Savusavu, and Natewa, are also being closely monitored.

The Fiji Meteorological Service attributes these unstable weather conditions to a trough situated near the Fiji group, which is expected to lead to thunderstorms accompanied by significant rainfall in the affected regions. The severity of these thunderstorms raises concerns about possible intense rainfall that could cause flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone zones.

Public safety is a priority, and community members are advised to take various precautionary measures. These include avoiding areas with flooded creeks and drains, steering clear of walking, cycling, or driving through floodwaters, unplugging electrical appliances, and staying indoors, especially away from windows. Parents are encouraged to keep children inside and remain vigilant by monitoring the evolving weather conditions.

Thunderstorm activity, marked by heavy rain and intense lightning, is anticipated to continue into the late afternoon or evening. However, officials note that due to the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, the impact may not be uniform across all areas, with some regions experiencing less severe conditions than others. As the situation develops, remaining informed and cautious will be essential for the safety of all residents.
