The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a heavy rain alert for the Fiji group as weather conditions are set to deteriorate. Alongside this, a strong wind warning has been placed for land areas including the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, northern Vanua Levu, western and northern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and Rotuma.

A tropical disturbance located east of northern Vanuatu is making its way south-southeast towards Fiji, expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas across the nation starting later today. Winds shifting to northwest are anticipated to reach speeds of up to 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially hitting 85 kilometers per hour in affected regions. The sea conditions are forecasted to become moderate to rough, escalating to rough to very rough as the day progresses.

The weather forecast indicates that rain and thunderstorms will largely affect regions such as Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, as well as Kadavu, Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups, with isolated showers expected in other areas.

As for tomorrow, conditions are expected to persist with occasional to periods of rain, heavy at times, alongside thunderstorms. The potential for localised heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. Winds will remain moderately fresh from the northwest, and seas will remain moderate to rough.

Temperatures across the main islands are forecast to range between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius, with cooler conditions anticipated in higher altitude areas. The public is urged to exercise caution, particularly in coastal and low-lying communities, and to stay informed by following updates from the National Weather Forecasting Centre.
