Young boxers showcased their skills in a vibrant atmosphere during the inaugural day of the Fiji-New Zealand Invitational event, hosted by the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association at the Commander Stan Brown Boxing Gym in Walu Bay, Suva. The event featured a total of 30 matches, kicking off at noon and wrapping up in the early evening.

The gym buzzed with the sounds of intensity, from the echoes of punches landing to the cheers of enthusiastic spectators rallying behind the young athletes. Cam Todd, head coach of the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, shared his excitement about the high level of participation and enthusiasm displayed by the young boxers. “Fiji has a tremendous future in amateur boxing with abundant talent,” Todd remarked, noting the continuous improvement seen in the athletes every week.

Preparation for the bouts included joint training sessions with the New Zealand team, further enhancing the competitive spirit of the event. Todd also revealed upcoming plans for the association, including the Golden Glove national competition next week and aspirations for international competitions in the United States and England for both male and female boxers in the coming year.

The competition will continue today at Nausori Primary School, promising further thrilling matches and showcasing the potential of Fiji’s boxing talent.
