Netball Fiji’s president, RubyAnn Sorovaki, has announced an exciting calendar for 2025, filled with local and international competitions, development programs, and initiatives aimed at building capacity within the sport.
The Fiji Pearls will commence the year by participating in the PacAus Sports Series in February, while the men’s team gears up for an international tournament in Australia, followed by engagements in the Singapore series. Meanwhile, the Baby Pearls, the under-21 netball team, are intensively preparing for the prestigious Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) set to take place in Gibraltar.
On the local front, support from the Fiji National Sports Commission has enabled the introduction of new tournaments, including a Tri-Nations Cup for players aged 21 and under, as well as an international competition for men’s teams. Plans are also in place to host a 17-and-under tournament to scout promising talent as the current under-21 players transition into the Pearls squad.
Development remains a central focus for Netball Fiji. The organization is planning training sessions for administrators, technical officials, and volunteers to ensure robust support for the sport. Furthermore, nationwide rallies will be organized to promote participation and ensure netball is accessible across various regions.
“We continue to prioritize the development of our sport and our people,” Sorovaki stated. “Our focus is on building capacity and assisting districts in running games and strengthening their teams.”
With a comprehensive schedule and a commitment to grassroots development, Netball Fiji is optimistic about advancing the sport throughout the nation in the coming year.
In summary, 2025 is poised to be a transformative year for Netball Fiji, with a strong emphasis on competition and development that promises to foster talent and strengthen the sport across all levels in the country. This optimistic approach not only enhances the skills of players but also builds a more vibrant netball community.
