The Lautoka Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (LMMNA) is set to kick off its 2025 season on September 27 at the Lautoka multipurpose court. Secretary Thomas Hicks revealed that six clubs have already shown interest in participating, with teams assembled for both men’s and mixed grades. The association plans to hold weekly competitions over the next two months following the season’s official opening.

This initiative aims to foster inclusivity within the sport, promoting both men’s and mixed netball, and serves as a platform for players of all skill levels to engage, improve, and enjoy the game. Since its inception in 2003 with just over 150 members, the LMMNA has flourished into one of Fiji’s largest men’s and mixed netball associations.

In preparation for the season launch, friendly matches are being held at the multipurpose court. Hicks also acknowledged the vital role of former players, particularly those residing in the United States, as they continue to support through sponsorships.

The evolution of this association mirrors the broader growth of men’s netball in Fiji. Recently, there has been a significant push to elevate the sport, evident from various competitive events and the increasing interest in men’s netball regionally.

Efforts similar to those of LMMNA are witnessed elsewhere in Fiji, such as upcoming international tournaments featuring teams from Fiji, New Zealand, and Tonga. These activities not only highlight regional talent but also contribute towards the ultimate aim of participating in the inaugural Men’s Netball World Cup.

In recent years, Fiji’s men’s netball has started to gain the recognition it deserves, due in part to successful international performances and strategic grassroots development. With continued growth and community support, men’s netball in Fiji holds the promise of advancing significantly on both national and international stages. This growing movement within the sport exemplifies the community’s positive response and the potential for greater participation and excellence in future competitions.
