The Republic of Fiji Navy vessel, RFNS Savenaca, is actively engaged in operations within Fiji’s eastern maritime zone, providing logistical support to hydrographic teams conducting surveys of the waters surrounding Fulaga in the Lau Group. This mission not only aids in the vital surveying efforts but also facilitates senior Navy officials to commend the surveying teams on their dedication and professionalism in executing this important national initiative.

This hydrographic work is part of a broader government initiative led by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Transport, aimed at invigorating economic activities in the outer islands. By enhancing maritime safety standards and improving navigational access, the project seeks to bolster the economic potential of these areas.

The updated survey of Fulaga’s waters will lead to the development of improved nautical charts, ensuring safer passage for commercial vessels and visiting yachts, while simultaneously enhancing regional connectivity. In addition to the hydrographic work, Navy representatives have engaged in discussions with the residents of Fulaga to identify further opportunities for the Navy to support island communities, particularly in the areas of maritime security, safety awareness, and emergency response.

This operation highlights the Navy’s continued commitment to maintaining a presence across Fiji’s extensive maritime territory, reinforcing its crucial role in protecting and assisting remote communities throughout the country. The initiative is not only pivotal for enhancing safety but also serves as a beacon of hope for the economic development of these outer island communities, fostering a sense of security and connectivity that is essential for their growth.
