The Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN) is currently conducting Exercise Limasagavulu, which is part of a celebration marking the RFN’s 50th anniversary. The exercise has reached its operational phase, with the final command briefings completed and exercise control established at the Maritime Essential Services Centre (MESC) in Lami.

This year’s exercise is focused on a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) scenario, simulating response efforts for an island severely impacted by a natural disaster. During the exercise, the RFN’s task unit will assess the situation on the affected island and provide an initial response aimed at evaluating standard operating procedures, communication systems, and the functionality of the coordination center.

A total of 117 naval personnel are participating, supported by three ships. The team includes specialized units such as the navy diving team and a deployable survey team, all under the leadership of Task Group Commander Jervis Robinson. The exercise is set to run over the next few days.

This event demonstrates the RFN’s commitment to enhancing its operational readiness and humanitarian response capabilities, similar to previous engagements like Exercise Croix du Sud and upcoming participation in multinational training events like Exercise Talisman Sabre. Such exercises not only fortify Fiji’s defense capabilities but also emphasize the importance of regional cooperation and preparedness in facing humanitarian challenges. Fiji’s proactive approach in these exercises fosters a hopeful perspective for collective resilience and security in the Pacific region.
