Strengthening leadership development within the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) took center stage yesterday, as Captain Timoci Natuva, the new Commander of the Fiji Navy, inaugurated the Veiliutaki Framework Lead Teams Course at the Force Training Group (FTG). This marks Captain Natuva’s first official visit to FTG since his appointment and underscores the military’s ongoing commitment to enhance its leadership capabilities.
During the ceremony, which included a traditional Quarter Guard welcome, Captain Natuva delivered an opening address emphasizing the essential role of leadership training in fostering a capable and resilient defense force. He highlighted the strategic importance of developing locally relevant military education, stating that programs like the Veiliutaki Framework are tailored to align with Fiji’s operational realities and defense priorities.
“Locally developed training is not only cost-effective but deeply relevant to our context,” he said, pointing out the necessity of such initiatives in cultivating leaders who can effectively respond to national and regional challenges.
After the address, Captain Natuva received an extensive briefing on FTG’s functions, showcasing how the training group supports the development of disciplined, skilled, and adaptable personnel across the Navy and the wider RFMF.
The Veiliutaki Framework Lead Teams Course represents a crucial pillar in the military’s leadership enhancement strategy, aimed at equipping personnel with the practical skills necessary for confident and competent leadership, infused with cultural awareness.
This initiative follows the recent launch of the Veiliutaki Framework Lead Self Course, aimed at encouraging self-awareness and personal growth among military personnel. Previous discussions led by military officials, including Commodore Humphrey Tawake, have reinforced the need for strategic vision and effective communication in modern military leadership.
Overall, these developments reflect a hopeful investment in the future of Fiji’s military leadership, fostering a culture of excellence and resilience equipped to tackle contemporary challenges. The RFMF’s commitment to leadership development not only strengthens its internal capacity but also enhances its ability to contribute positively to regional security dynamics.
