The disbanding of the Cakobau Navy in 1873 marked a turning point, as Fiji transitioned to a colonial era under Australian naval protection, culminating in the establishment of the Royal Australian Navy. Recently, the Fiji Navy has been bolstered with the commissioning of the RFNS Timo, a Guardian-class patrol boat that significantly enhances the nation’s capabilities for safeguarding its extensive maritime territory and addressing concerns such as rising drug trafficking.
