Fiji National University (FNU) is set to undertake comprehensive external reviews led by distinguished international experts. During a conference focused on revitalizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and higher education, FNU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, shared details of the new strategic plan aimed at elevating the university’s educational standards.

The initiative involves bringing esteemed professors from abroad to conduct evaluations of each academic institution within FNU, ensuring rigorous academic and administrative assessments. Professor Nabobo-Baba emphasized the significance of these collaborations, stating, “Beyond that, we are looking at WASC accreditation among others out of America.” This accreditation aims to enhance FNU’s global recognition and strengthen its educational framework.

The Vice-Chancellor noted the importance of fostering partnerships, specifically mentioning cooperation with the American, Australian, and New Zealand educational systems, which she believes will greatly benefit FNU’s enhancement efforts. Such international collaborations are seen as pivotal for resetting FNU and expanding its educational horizons.

This move aligns with broader discussions within Fiji’s education sector, where initiatives to improve quality education and adapt to changing societal demands are increasingly emphasized. For instance, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka recently advised students at FNU to embrace opportunities for quality education as a means of adapting to societal changes. He underlined that education is a vital tool for personal and national growth, echoing the sentiments shared by Professor Nabobo-Baba regarding the university’s commitment to align with the Fijian Government’s vision for education.

The ongoing efforts to enhance FNU’s educational infrastructure and accreditation processes reflect a promising outlook for the future of education in Fiji. Through these strategic partnerships and external reviews, FNU aims not just to uplift its standards but to position itself as a leader in the Pacific education landscape, ultimately benefiting students and fostering a brighter future for the nation’s educational aspirations.

Overall, this initiative underscores a proactive approach in responding to the needs of the educational sector, paving the way for significant advancements in faculty, curriculum, and student engagement.
