In a commendable initiative to improve educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has successfully concluded an application drive across the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This effort has been widely appreciated, particularly by Koro High School teacher Semisi Caucau, who expressed his gratitude towards FNU for their dedication to supporting students facing geographical barriers.

Caucau emphasized the profound impact this initiative has had, stating that FNU’s assistance has opened new opportunities for students to pursue their dreams with confidence. He noted that the university’s efforts are crucial in prioritizing the future of young learners in their community and voiced eagerness for future collaborations.

The outreach campaign involved engaging information sessions at several schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. During these sessions, FNU representatives provided Year 12 and Year 13 students with details about various academic programs and guided them through the application process.

Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, highlighted the enthusiasm of students, especially at Vunisea, where students actively engaged with the FNU team to explore how the university’s programs align with their career aspirations. The excitement among the Year 13 students was evident as they sought to understand possible paths for the upcoming 2025 Semester 1 academic year.

At Gau Secondary School, the team expressed their appreciation for the dedication of Year 13 students who sacrificed their Saturday to engage with FNU staff and work on their applications. This dedication underscored the students’ commitment to planning their futures effectively.

The final visit to Levuka Public School marked a successful conclusion to the outreach initiative, where FNU’s team answered questions and provided further guidance to students navigating the application process.

This outreach not only enhances educational opportunities but also strengthens the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves, reaffirming the university’s mission to empower students and support their educational journeys.

Overall, these initiatives represent a positive step towards leveling the educational playing field for students in remote areas, inspiring hope for a brighter and more accessible future for all learners.
