Fiji National University (FNU) has announced a remarkable increase in student enrolment for the 2024 academic year, with a total of 26,738 students recorded across its various colleges. This figure reflects a significant rise from 23,862 students in 2023, marking the highest headcount in the last five years.

The National Training & Productivity Centre (NTPC) has shown exceptional growth, enrolling 8,169 students, an increase from 5,938 the previous year, representing a year-on-year growth of 37.6%. This surge signifies a growing interest in upskilling and vocational training programs, highlighting the university’s focus on equipping students with relevant skills for today’s job market.

Enrolment figures from other colleges include 4,385 in the College of Humanities & Education, 2,863 in the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, 985 in the College of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry, and 1,554 in the Fiji Maritime Academy/Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies. However, the College of Business, Hospitality & Tourism Studies, along with the College of Engineering, Science & Technology, experienced minor declines in their enrolment numbers, continuing a downward trend that has been observed since 2020.

This thriving enrolment scenario at FNU aligns with the broader trend of enhanced interest in vocational and technical education in Fiji. The strong numbers could pave the way for more skilled graduates entering the workforce, benefiting local communities and industries.

As FNU continues to grow and adapt, it remains committed to providing quality education and fostering an environment where students can thrive, setting a hopeful tone for future developments in higher education in Fiji.
