Fiji National University (FNU) recently wrapped up an impactful outreach initiative targeting students in the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups, aimed at improving educational access in remote regions. The outreach team’s efforts were widely appreciated, particularly by Koro High School teacher, Semisi Caucau, who commended FNU’s dedication to overcoming geographical barriers and supporting local students in their academic pursuits.
Caucau expressed his gratitude, stating, “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently.” His remarks highlight the significant role FNU’s outreach plays in shaping the educational landscape for community members, and he looks forward to more partnerships in the future.
The outreach campaign comprised informative sessions held at various schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. During these sessions, FNU representatives engaged Year 12 and Year 13 students, sharing insights about the university’s various academic programs and helping them navigate the application procedure.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, noted the enthusiasm displayed by the students, especially at Vunisea, where many showed a keen interest in understanding how FNU’s offerings could help them fulfill their career aspirations. “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year,” she remarked.
This initiative not only provided vital academic information but also reinforced the university’s commitment to empowering students and strengthening ties with local communities. At Gau Secondary School, Sharma also appreciated the Year 13 students who took the time on a Saturday to connect with FNU staff and complete their application forms, showcasing their commitment to planning for their futures.
The final leg of the outreach at Levuka Public School was a fitting conclusion, with FNU staff engaging with students, addressing their inquiries, and guiding them through the application process.
The efforts of FNU illustrate the positive impact educational institutions can have in remote regions, inspiring hope and providing opportunities that can significantly change lives.
This outreach campaign not only highlights the importance of access to education but also emphasizes how institutions like FNU are actively working to bridge the gap for students in underserved areas.
