Fiji National University (FNU) has successfully completed an outreach initiative aimed at improving educational access for students in remote regions, particularly in the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. The outreach team engaged with schools, including Vunisea Secondary School and Levuka Public School, to provide important resources and support for students during the application process.
Semisi Caucau, a teacher at Koro High School, expressed gratitude towards FNU for its dedication to helping students overcome geographical barriers to education. He remarked on the profound impact the university’s efforts have had on the students, enabling them to confidently pursue their educational goals and leaving a significant influence on the community.
During the campaign, FNU representatives connected with Year 12 and Year 13 students, offering insights into the university’s various academic programs and assisting them with their applications. The enthusiasm from students was notably high, especially at Vunisea, where they eagerly sought to understand how FNU’s offerings aligned with their career aspirations.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting manager of outreach, emphasized the commitment shown by the students, particularly those who chose to engage with FNU staff on a Saturday to work on their applications. The outreach campaign culminated at Levuka Public School, marking a successful conclusion to this initiative, which not only provided vital academic information but also strengthened the relationship between FNU and the communities it serves.
This effort exemplifies how educational institutions are actively working to bridge gaps in access to opportunities for students, paving the way for a brighter future. The collaboration between FNU and local schools is a promising step towards nurturing the next generation of professionals in Fiji.
In summary, the FNU outreach initiative is a strong testament to the university’s commitment to education and community engagement, ensuring that students in remote areas have the necessary support to achieve their academic goals. This kind of proactive approach is essential in building a more equitable educational landscape.
