In an impressive move to broaden educational access for students in remote regions, the Fiji National University (FNU) outreach team has recently concluded a successful application drive throughout the Kadavu and Lomaiviti Groups. This initiative reflects FNU’s dedication to overcoming geographical barriers and making education more accessible.
The outreach efforts were met with appreciation from Koro High School teacher Semisi Caucau, who commended FNU for actively supporting students despite the challenges posed by their locations. “Your willingness to assist our students with their applications has made a profound impact, opening doors for them to pursue their aspirations confidently,” Mr. Caucau noted. He highlighted the significant role FNU plays in prioritizing students’ futures and expressed eagerness for future collaborations.
The campaign featured informative sessions at multiple schools, including Vunisea Secondary School, Richmond High School, and Levuka Public School. FNU representatives engaged with Year 12 and Year 13 students, providing valuable insights into various academic programs and guidance on the application process.
Vijayta Sharma, the acting outreach manager, emphasized the enthusiasm of students, particularly at Vunisea, where many eagerly sought to align FNU’s offerings with their career ambitions. “The excitement was palpable as Year 13 students interacted with our team, eager to explore their options for the 2025 Semester 1 academic year,” she stated.
The initiative not only provided essential academic information but also deepened the connection between FNU and the local communities, reinforcing the university’s commitment to empowering students and supporting their educational journeys. Sharma also noted the dedication of Year 13 students at Gau Secondary School, who took time out on Saturday to engage with FNU staff to complete their application forms, highlighting their commitment to planning for their future effectively.
The outreach campaign concluded successfully at Levuka Public School, where the FNU team was pleased to connect with students, address their queries, and assist them through the application process.
This outreach effort underlines the power of community engagement in education, showcasing a promising future for students who are determined to pursue higher learning. Such initiatives serve as a reminder of the importance of education in shaping lives and communities, paving the way for brighter tomorrows.
