The Fiji National University (FNU) has officially received full accreditation for its Level 6 Diploma in Engineering programs from Engineering New Zealand. This accreditation, which is valid for three years, comes after the university had previously obtained conditional approval in 2022.
Professor Nii-K Plange, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of FNU, expressed pride in this achievement, stating that it underscores the university’s commitment to quality education and adherence to global standards. He acknowledged the hard work of the university’s staff and academic leaders in developing and maintaining engineering programs that align with international expectations.
The accreditation decision was reinforced by a robust progress report and a positive review led by Dr. Andrew Cleland during a visitation earlier this year. The newly accredited programs include:
1. Diploma in Engineering (Civil)
2. Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical)
3. Diploma in Engineering (Electronics, Telecommunication & Networking)
4. Diploma in Engineering (Electronics, Instrumentation & Control)
5. Diploma in Engineering (Electrical)
This development reflects FNU’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational standards and align them with international benchmarks, which is imperative in preparing students for global opportunities. The full accreditation of these engineering programs not only validates the university’s achievements but also positions its graduates favorably in the competitive job market.
Furthermore, this milestone is connected to previous discussions about the importance of aligning engineering education with global standards as stipulated by the Washington Accord. This ensures that graduates from FNU are equipped to meet professional requirements both locally and internationally.
FNU’s commitment to fostering quality education contributes to the development of skilled engineers who can significantly impact Fiji’s engineering landscape, promoting economic growth and innovation across the region. This positive outlook indicates a strong future for engineering education at FNU, encouraging students to strive for excellence.
