It’s not a usual occurrence to meet the Fiji National 7s rugby team, particularly when you’re a hospital patient. However, this became a reality for young patients at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s children’s ward, which became a hive of activity when the rugby team came in for a visit.

The kids’ faces lit up with pure joy and excitement as they interacted with rugby legends such as Osea Kolinisau, Setefano Cakau, Jerry Tuwai, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Josaia Raisuqe, Iosefo Masi, Selestino Ravutaumada, Waisea Nacuqu and more. The sports stars encouraged the children to stay strong and wished them speedy recoveries.

According to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the patients were thrilled with the visit. Semisi Vasuitaukei, a patient in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, shared that he had been bored for days at the ward and the visit from the players was a highlight for him. Vasuitaukei plans to recount this memorable story once he’s returned home to Savusavu.

The rugby team’s coach, Osea Kolinisau, conveyed his warm appreciation to the hospital staff, thanking them for their warm welcome and for accommodating their visit at short notice. He disclosed that the morning visit had a therapeutic impact on the team as they gear up for the Olympic Games in France.

Kolinisau lauded the young patients who continued to smile amidst their hardships, stating that their resilience reminded the team of the hopes and expectations their fans hold for them. Taking inspiration from the children’s strong spirit, Kolinisau affirmed that the team is preparing to give their all at the upcoming Olympic Games.

The visit ended on a high note with the CWM Hospital children’s ward principal administration officer, Keverieli Saitadra, expressing gratitude to the players for their visit. Moreover, the Health and Medical Services Minister Ratu Dr Atonio Lalabalavu and the Ministry conveyed their best wishes to the team for their Olympic Games matches.
