Etuweni Caucau, a former member of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, has been appointed as Fiji’s new Ambassador to Malaysia. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced this development to the media on Tuesday, mentioning that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently awaiting the necessary documentation and approval from the Government of Malaysia to finalize the appointment.
Caucau’s selection for the ambassadorial role followed a thorough process by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His military career began when he graduated from the Officer Cadet School in Portsea on December 14, 1984. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Fiji Infantry Corps and initially served as a Platoon Commander with the Fiji Infantry Regiment Depot at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Suva. He culminated his military career by retiring in 2007 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, having served as the Director of Human Resources Management.
After retiring from the military, Caucau transitioned to a corporate role as the Manager of Human Resources at the Pacific Fishing Company Limited, Fiji’s largest fishery operation, where he worked for seven years until May 2014. Currently, he contributes to his community as the full-time church administrator at the Christian Mission Fellowship International World Harvest Centre Church in Kinoya, which is recognized as one of the largest churches in the Pacific region.
This appointment represents a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Fiji and Malaysia. With Caucau’s extensive experience in both military and civilian roles, he brings a unique perspective to the position of ambassador, promising to foster positive diplomatic engagement.
In summary, Fiji has chosen a seasoned leader with a diverse background for its ambassador role in Malaysia, which could herald a new chapter in bilateral relations. With a hopeful outlook, this appointment may enhance cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
