The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is set to name its final squad for the Singapore 7s tournament a week after the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s event. Head coach Osea Kolinisau made the announcement during a training session held at Albert Park in Suva on Tuesday.
With plans already in place, a 12-member squad will represent Fiji in the upcoming tournament, while additional players will compete for the McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s team. Kolinisau emphasized the importance of keeping all players engaged, stating that those not selected will continue their fitness routines.
Kolinisau expressed his desire to provide valuable experience for new players joining the national side. He remarked, “A lot of the boys that played in the grassroots will play again at Coral Coast. It’s a good experience for them, especially with the sides coming to the Coral Coast.” This exposure aims to offer a solid platform to test emerging talent against competing international teams.
After the holiday break, the team has come together again to focus on their training, building on their performances in the initial legs of the series in Dubai and Cape Town. The rigorous training at Albert Park is a testament to their dedication and commitment as they prepare for upcoming challenges on the international stage. The emphasis on player development and competition indicates that Fiji’s rugby future looks promising.
