Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa has encouraged Fijians planning to run for the upcoming municipal elections to introduce innovative ideas and a community-oriented approach to local governance.
During a speech in Lautoka marking the inauguration of the new Lautoka Bus Terminal, Nalumisa highlighted that the project’s completion exemplifies a leadership ethos focused on serving the community’s needs. This type of leadership, he emphasized, is essential within local councils and should be a primary consideration for prospective candidates.
Nalumisa stressed that individuals aspiring to hold office must be prepared to engage with their communities meaningfully, demonstrating vision, accountability, and practical solutions to local challenges. The local government elections are anticipated to take place later this year, presenting an opportunity for fresh leadership to emerge and drive positive change for the people of Fiji.
