The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has confirmed its awareness of a medical incident involving an elderly man at the Natovi Jetty yesterday. The Authority expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this unfortunate event.

MSAF clarified that the incident did not take place on any vessel but used the opportunity to remind the public, especially elderly individuals and those with pre-existing health issues, about the importance of conducting thorough medical check-ups before embarking on long-distance maritime travel.

Moreover, the Authority is urging travelers to exercise caution during the current hot and humid weather, highlighting that dehydration can lead to significant health risks. MSAF strongly advises the public to ensure they consume sufficient amounts of water prior to and during their travels to prevent heat-related complications.

The MSAF continues to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance safety, health, and well-being throughout Fiji’s maritime sector. This proactive approach underscores the commitment of the Authority to safeguard the health of travelers and improve maritime safety standards in the region.
