Fiji MP Kamikamica Seeks Stay in Criminal Case Ahead of March High Court Hearing

The High Court has scheduled a hearing in March next year regarding the stay application from Manoa Kamikamica, a Member of Parliament and former Deputy Prime Minister. Kamikamica is seeking to permanently suspend his criminal proceedings currently underway in a lower court.

Today, Kamikamica appeared before Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull to address charges against him filed by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). These charges include one count of perjury and one count of providing false information to a public servant. It is alleged that between December 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, in Suva, Kamikamica knowingly made false statements under oath, asserting he had no involvement in the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner. Furthermore, similar false information was reportedly provided to the Commissioner of Inquiry.

During the session, Justice Bull established a timetable for the proceedings. The FICAC has until January 14 next year to file and serve its affidavit in response, while Kamikamica’s attorney, Wylie Clarke, has been allotted until February 4 to respond. Written submissions from both parties must be underlined by February 24.

The hearing is set to commence on March 25, with Kamikamica planning to call upon two witnesses. The case has been adjourned and is scheduled for further mention on February 5 next year. As the legal proceedings progress, many will be observing the developments closely, highlighting the continued significance of accountability in public office.
