Barrie Sweetman, a prominent figure in Fijian sports administration and a passionate rugby supporter, passed away on December 11, 2024, at the age of 90. Sweetman was the first chairman of the Fiji Sports Council, a role he held starting in 1978, and he played a crucial part in guiding the organization during its early development. His leadership extended to the Fiji Rugby Union, where he served for more than a decade and was chairman from 1973 to 1982, a time when Fiji celebrated several significant victories in rugby.
