Barrie Sweetman, a highly respected sports administrator and rugby aficionado in Fiji, passed away on December 11, 2024, at the age of 90. His funeral took place this week at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Suva, where family, friends, and colleagues came together to honor his significant contributions to the realms of sports, law, and public service—efforts that will be cherished for many years to come.

Sweetman was a pivotal figure in Fijian sports history, serving as the first chairman of the Fiji Sports Council beginning in 1978.
