Barrie Sweetman, a renowned sports administrator and passionate rugby advocate in Fiji, passed away on December 11, 2024, at the age of 90.

He was the first chairman of the Fiji Sports Council, taking on the role in 1978 and guiding the organization through its crucial initial years. In addition to his notable roles, Sweetman was a long-serving honorary solicitor for the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC). His efforts in developing sports infrastructure in Fiji have made a lasting impact on the country’s sporting landscape.
