Emotions are running high within the Fiji Police Force following the tragic discovery of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi’s body floating at sea on Sunday. Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua expressed profound sadness and anger over the loss of the young officer, emphasizing the impact of this event on the police community.

“I’m very angry, you know? I’m so saddened. But I cannot allow my emotions to overcome what we need to do,” Mr. Naivalurua stated, highlighting his commitment to addressing this incident head-on. He issued a stern warning to those responsible, stating, “We’ve lost the life of a young man, PC Peniasi, in the line of duty. Let me make it absolutely clear — to those that were responsible, you’ve crossed the line. The full brunt of the law will come down hard on you.”

The minister assured the public that no efforts would be spared in uncovering the truth behind Racagi’s death, promising that “we will leave no stone unturned” in the investigation. However, he also urged the public to refrain from speculation during this sensitive time, stressing the importance of allowing the investigation to proceed without external commentary.

Furthermore, Mr. Naivalurua called for respect for Racagi’s family and the grieving police force, reminding everyone that a life has been lost. “We need to respect his family… we are also mourning a young life that has been lost,” he noted. As investigations intensify, the message from the government is clear: justice will be pursued diligently.

This event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by frontline officers and the collective mourning that follows such tragic incidents within communities. The commitment to justice underscores the need for unity and support during this challenging time.
