The Fiji Police Force has regretfully announced the passing of K9 Thor, a dedicated police dog who served with honor during operations in Taveuni. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident and shared that K9 Thor’s contributions will be recognized with a full police burial, in line with the tradition of the Fiji Police Force that pays tribute to all its members, including those in the canine unit.

K9 Thor joined the ranks of the Fiji Police Force in November 2021 and was celebrated for his service. His loss comes amidst a period of mourning within the force, which has recently commemorated officers who have died in the line of duty. The increase in fatalities amongst police members, often linked to non-communicable diseases, has prompted Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, to highlight the critical importance of health and self-care for officers.

The unfortunate passing of K9 Thor underscores the sacrifices made not only by police personnel but also their four-legged partners. It serves as a poignant reminder of the profound bond between law enforcement and their service dogs, reflecting their shared commitment to community safety and well-being.

In light of this loss, the Fiji Police Force is dedicated to honoring the memories of all who have served, ensuring that their legacies—both human and canine—are remembered and respected. This commitment speaks to the heart of the force’s ethos, showcasing resilience and a dedication to honor those who protect and serve.
