The Macuata Provincial Council confirmed the passing of Ratu Tevita Niumataiwalu, a former Member of Parliament, at Labasa Hospital. Ratu Tevita served as a member of SODELPA, stepping into Parliament in 2018 to fill the seat left by Mosese Bulitavu, who was convicted of sedition. The former MP and Tui Namuka will be laid to rest next Thursday in Namuka.
Ratu Tevita’s death marks a notable loss in Fijian politics, remembering his contributions during his tenure. His involvement in Parliament, albeit brief, followed a significant political turnover, highlighting the resilience and continuity necessary in governance.
This news sits alongside recent passings of other influential Fijian leaders, each having left indelible marks on their communities. Similar to Ratu Meli Saukuru and Lt Colonel Laisenia Tuitubou, Ratu Tevita’s contributions were part of a broader narrative of committed political and community service within Fiji. These leaders’ legacies inspire dedication to public service, a testament to the enduring influence of leadership rooted in community values.
Reflecting on the lives of such leaders reinforces the importance of dedicated and selfless service, leaving lasting impressions that guide future generations. Peace and healing to Ratu Tevita’s family and community are wished during this period of mourning.
