The Fiji Medical Association (FMA) has paid tribute to the late Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, the former Permanent Secretary for Health, calling him a “lighthouse, mentor, and friend” to the medical community. FMA President Dr. Alipate Vakamocea expressed deep respect for Dr. Tudravu, emphasizing his lifelong commitment to enhancing healthcare in Fiji and his impactful contributions through various clinical and leadership positions.

Dr. Tudravu, who served on the FMA executive for over a decade, began his career as an orthopaedic surgeon at Lautoka Hospital. He later ascended to prominent administrative roles, including Medical Superintendent at both Lautoka and the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Chief Medical Advisor, and ultimately, Permanent Secretary for Health.

Dr. Vakamocea highlighted Dr. Tudravu’s numerous achievements, noting that he played a pivotal role in negotiating significant salary increases for medical practitioners in the region, a legacy that continues to benefit healthcare professionals today. He characterized Dr. Tudravu as a “silent but decisive leader,” whose thoughtful decision-making was a source of guidance for his colleagues, especially in challenging times.

The FMA expressed that the medical profession has lost a significant figure, emphasizing how deeply Dr. Tudravu will be missed by all who knew him. This tribute not only highlights his professional accomplishments but also the personal connections he built throughout his career, showcasing the profound impact he had on many lives in the field of healthcare in Fiji.
