Fiji has lost a prominent figure in its athletic history following the passing of Rajendra Prasad, a former long-distance athlete, at the age of 73 at his home in Bilalevu, Nadroga.
Prasad holds the distinction of being the first Indo-Fijian to represent Fiji in athletics, a significant milestone that set a precedent for future generations of Indo-Fijian athletes. His athletic career included notable performances at the 1971 South Pacific Games in Tahiti, where he finished 5th in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters events.
