Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad has expressed his deep sorrow following the passing of renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Parma Nand. Recognized as one of Fiji’s foremost medical professionals, Dr. Nand’s contributions to cardiac surgery have earned him international acclaim.
In his tribute, Prof. Prasad highlighted Dr. Nand’s exceptional career which began in Labasa, where he first showcased his talent in medicine. Over the years, he garnered significant recognition globally for his expertise and pioneering work in cardiothoracic surgery.
Dr. Nand was not only successful professionally but also remained deeply rooted in his commitment to Fiji. Since 2006, he dedicated his time and effort to leading medical missions back to his homeland, where he performed life-saving cardiac surgeries for local patients. These missions not only alleviated many families’ financial burdens but also provided invaluable training and experience to local surgeons and healthcare professionals.
Throughout his remarkable career, Dr. Nand contributed extensively to medical literature, solidifying his legacy in both surgery and education. His humility and compassion endeared him to many, fostering an environment of mentorship for aspiring medical practitioners.
