Twenty-five officers from the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection are currently participating in a Microsoft Excel Masterclass designed to enhance their data management and analytical capabilities throughout the Central Division. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to fostering evidence-based decision-making and enhancing service delivery.

The training session was officiated by Acting Permanent Secretary Selina Kuruleca, who highlighted the importance of coupling empathy with precise data and thorough analysis in effective social protection work. She referenced the Fiji National Development Plan for 2025 to 2029, which emphasizes accountability, measurable outcomes, and evidence-based policy formulation in critical areas such as child protection, gender equality, and social vulnerability reduction.

Kuruleca stated that the data generated by the officers—once collected, cleaned, analyzed, and reported—plays a crucial role in establishing national indicators that evaluate government performance and inform policy and budgetary decisions. She emphasized that Microsoft Excel is a vital tool that enables personnel to transition from basic record-keeping to conducting trend analyses, tracking performance, and delivering evidence-based reports.

Through this masterclass, participants are acquiring expertise in advanced Excel functions, data visualization, and automation techniques. The skills attained are expected to enhance accuracy, minimize errors, and free up more time for strategic thinking and thorough policy analysis, ultimately leading to better outcomes in their respective areas of focus. This training is a meaningful step forward in ensuring that social protection efforts are rooted in reliable data and effective applications, contributing positively to the lives of those in need.
