The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is set to resume its reconciliation and restoration program, Phase 2, at the beginning of next year. This phase will focus on community engagement and outreach, aiming to foster reconciliation in areas that were impacted by previous coups.
RFMF Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai emphasized the critical nature of this phase as the institution strives to rebuild trust with the communities. He stated, “In Phase 2, we will visit communities to engage in discussions, listen to their survival stories, and promote institutional reconciliation.”
The commander noted that this phase represents a crucial opportunity for the RFMF to seek healing and offer sincere apologies to the Fijian people. Major-General Kalouniwai highlighted that the engagement with the communities would not only facilitate reconciliation but also bolster the RFMF’s efforts to regain the trust of Fijians.
This initiative is a positive step towards mending relationships and fostering unity, offering hope to both the military and the communities they aim to support. It underscores the importance of dialogue and understanding in moving forward as a nation.
