For the first time, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has presented its annual reports for the years 2019 to 2022 to Parliament. This marks a significant milestone as there have been no publicly available annual reports on the Parliament of Fiji website since 2009, making the recent tabling of these reports crucial for transparency.
In the 2021-2022 report, Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai described the previous year as one of transition for the RFMF. He noted that the military faced a variety of complex and evolving threats, including the global pandemic, as well as issues related to transnational, maritime, and climate security. Despite these challenges, he emphasized the RFMF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and contributing to global peace and stability.
The Commander expressed pride in presenting the report, stating, “I hope that this report serves as an accurate reflection of the great work that our military does day in and day out, and that it inspires others to continue to support our brave men and women in uniform.” His remarks highlight the ongoing dedication of the RFMF to adapt to changing situations and achieve operational goals with precision.
This development not only enhances accountability within the military but also offers the public insight into the RFMF’s efforts and achievements, fostering greater understanding and support for the armed forces.
Overall, the presentation of these annual reports is a step toward improved transparency and can inspire confidence in the military’s role in national and global security.
