The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) is addressing growing concerns regarding extra-marital affairs among peacekeepers stationed in the Middle East. During a recent Commander RFMF Parade at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai expressed a strong zero-tolerance stance on this issue, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and will be dealt with if reported to the RFMF headquarters. He urged soldiers to communicate openly with their spouses and prioritize their familial responsibilities, emphasizing the need to prevent family disruptions caused by these matters.
In addition to this pressing concern, Major-General Kalouniwai highlighted issues of wrongful termination within the RFMF, noting that improper dismissal procedures by some senior officers have resulted in significant compensation costs for the military. He remarked on the importance of adhering to proper protocols during dismissals to maintain discipline and reduce financial burdens on the organization.
Despite the challenges posed by these issues, Kalouniwai reaffirmed the RFMF’s commitment to national security and the well-being of all Fijians. This outlook reflects an ongoing effort to cultivate a respectful and accountable environment within the military, underscoring the organization’s dedication to upholding high ethical standards and supporting its personnel, including increased efforts towards family accountability and transparency.
The proactive measures being put in place signal a hopeful direction for the RFMF, as it seeks to strengthen both the personal lives of its members and the overall integrity of the force.
