Fiji Military Forces Launch Historic Reconciliation Event

For the first time, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces is hosting the RFMF Reconciliation and Restoration event at the Sukunaivalu Barracks in Labasa.

The day’s activities commenced with a church service, which set a reflective and healing tone for the occasion.

Following the service, a series of talanoa sessions will take place, led by the Commander of the RFMF, Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, along with former military personnel who participated in the takeover of Sukunaivalu VC Barracks.

Originally, the event was expected to conclude with a traditional Fijian reconciliation ceremony known as veisorosorovi, during which the RFMF would seek forgiveness in a meaningful act of reconciliation. However, this part of the program has been postponed and will now occur tomorrow.

Additionally, the RFMF plans to extend its gesture of seeking forgiveness from the Province of Macuata during a reconciliation ceremony that will follow Fijian protocol.

Tune in during our major news bulletin at 6 this evening for further updates.
