Rev. Dr. Semisi Turagavou has cast children as central to the Methodist Church’s future in his Palm Sunday message for 2026, urging congregations in Fiji and overseas to nurture young faith as the church enters Holy Week. Delivering the address to members across the Methodist community on Palm Sunday (March 29, 2026), Turagavou framed this year’s celebrations around the theme “Jesus is the Hope of Life.”

“To our dear children, you are the future of our Church and the living testimony of God’s love,” Rev. Dr. Turagavou told worshippers, extending warm greetings to families, teachers and young people. He said the Palm Sunday observance — which marks Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem — is both a remembrance and a renewal of faith, pointing Christians to hope even in difficult seasons.

Turagavou singled out children taking part in Palm Sunday programs and processions, encouraging them to grow in faith and remain steadfast. “As you take part in Palm Sunday programs… may you grow deeper in faith, stronger in love, and steadfast in hope,” he said, urging parents, educators and church leaders to continue supporting youth formation so the next generation can sustain church life and witness.

A key emphasis of the president’s message was Christian unity. He reminded members that regardless of where they worship — in Fiji or abroad — believers are bound together “as one family in Christ.” That appeal to solidarity comes as many congregations prepare for Holy Week services and outreach, and he encouraged the Methodist community to maintain that connectedness through shared acts of service and worship.

Rev. Dr. Turagavou also called on church members to take the Palm Sunday message beyond sanctuary walls. He urged congregations to carry “the message of hope, love and faith into their communities throughout Holy Week,” a directive that signals an expectation for visible outreach and pastoral presence during the days leading to Easter.

The address highlights a continuing focus by Methodist leadership on youth engagement and spiritual formation at a pivotal time in the church calendar. By naming children as the “living testimony” of God’s love and centring the 2026 theme on hope, Turagavou set the tone for a Holy Week in which nurturing the next generation and sustaining unity among Fiji’s Methodist faithful are priorities.
