The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has launched a new initiative aimed at fostering national unity through a three-year Prayer and Fasting Framework. This program is designed to promote spiritual renewal and encourage social responsibility throughout the nation. The pre-launch event was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Policing and the Ministry of Communications, where church and government leaders highlighted the growing social issues that affect families and communities across Fiji.
Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua underscored the urgency of creating a united front to protect future generations. “If we stand together—government, church, Vanua, communities—we create protection around our children and safeguard our future,” he asserted.
The framework aims to mobilize congregations nationwide, facilitating structured periods of prayer and fasting while promoting active community engagement and fostering moral accountability. Semisi Turagavou, the President of the Methodist Church, emphasized that this initiative extends beyond the church, inviting broader national participation.
Turagavou urged collaboration among traditional leaders, NGOs, and government officials, along with participation from other Christian denominations. “We must come together, work together, and move together as one people,” he stated, expressing optimism that unity will enable meaningful change.
According to church leaders, the framework is intended to tackle significant social challenges by fostering collaboration between faith-based organizations, traditional chiefs, civil society, and government bodies. This collective approach signals a hopeful move towards addressing critical issues facing Fiji, aiming for a more resilient and united nation.
