The Fiji men’s invitational netball team has had a commendable run at the 2025 Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (AMMNA) Championship in Melbourne, achieving five victories out of seven matches thus far. Competing in the Reserve Grade division, the team faced off against formidable opponents, starting with a loss to South Australia (57-65) in their opening match. However, they quickly regrouped to secure a win against the Australian Capital Territory (64-39).

Fiji’s winning streak included nail-biting victories against Queensland 23s (58-51) and a thrilling match against Western Australia, where they emerged victorious with a close score of 63-61. With three matches remaining, the team’s performance has placed them in a strong position as the championship continues.

Netball Fiji noted that this tournament is not only beneficial for gaining international exposure but also plays a crucial role in enhancing players’ fitness and game tactics. A representative from Netball Fiji shared, “Playing two games a day is intense but allows our players to gain experience in terms of conditioning and game endurance.”

Fiji is utilizing this championship as preparation for the upcoming Men’s International Series scheduled in Suva this August. Head coach Jioweli Vakamoce previously highlighted the advantages of participating in the AMMNA Championships to test team dynamics and build performance under competitive pressure.

Netball Fiji expressed appreciation for the hard work of both players and officials, wishing the team success in their remaining games. The Fiji men’s team is riding a wave of confidence following their triumph in the Men’s Nations Cup in 2024, which has only propelled their ambition on this international stage.

As the team continues its journey in Australia, there’s an optimistic outlook for both their immediate performance and their future endeavors in men’s netball. Their experiences at the AMMNA Championships are expected to serve as valuable lessons that will enhance their capabilities as they strive to leave a mark in upcoming competitions.
