The Crest Fiji men’s netball team achieved a significant milestone by winning the Men’s Nations Series in Singapore, marking their first-ever international tournament victory. In an exhilarating final match, Fiji showcased determination by overcoming a deficit to edge out the Australia Under-23 team with a score of 55-54 at the Jurong East Sporting Complex. This victory was particularly sweet as it allowed them to avenge an earlier defeat of 48-60 against the Australians during the pool stage.

Throughout the tournament, Fiji demonstrated exceptional performance, beginning with a strong debut against the England Trailblazers, which they won 47-36. They continued their success by defeating New Zealand 57-38, and triumphed over the hosts, Singapore, with a commanding score of 62-27. Fiji concluded the pool phase with an impressive 82-20 victory over Hong Kong. Equipped with this momentum, they advanced to the semifinals, where they further asserted their dominance by overcoming England with a score of 62-27, securing their spot in the finals.

This tournament marked a historic moment as it was the first time a Fiji men’s netball team participated in an international competition since the 2004 International Men’s Netball Championship in Melbourne, Australia. Captain Kitione Waqavonovono and vice-captain Joseva Nawaqa celebrated this historic victory, emphasizing the spirit and resilience of the Fijian team.

The success of the Crest Fiji men’s netball team not only brings pride to their nation but also shines a light on the growing recognition of men’s netball globally. Their triumph serves as an inspiration for aspiring male netball players, encouraging more participation in the sport and highlighting the potential for future achievements on the international stage.
